Why is SEO Important? The perspective of a Calgary SEO specialist
Despite the fact that you’re beginning to hear the term “SEO” all the time, the true depth of its impact has not yet been comprehended by the majority of the marketing industry. Look at Facebook, twitter, and linkdIn; these are all examples of earth-changing shifts in our lifestyles and our lives as a whole. 20 years ago nobody imagined the internet would be what it is now, and the same is true for 20 years from now. We have no idea. What we do know is that the internet is possibly the single most useful tool for sharing information that has ever been invented, and knowing how people use this tool is the key to knowing how to position your business in the market.
Because the marketing industry is so old, it tends to be set in its ways. Truth be told, all industries are somewhat like this (big oil is a good example). I myself am in my early 30′s and I’m already noticing the tremendous gap between my own way of life and that of the teenagers running around, constantly connected to the internet through a cell phone, iphone, or any number of things. This is the way the world is turning, constant connection to an almost unlimited source of information, entertainment, and communication. And people are learning to use it, they are beginning to awaken to the fact that they can find just about anything they want with the click of a mouse.
Search Engine Optimization is essentially the process of making your website as visible as possible on the internet, but there is much more to it than that. The beauty of a well planned SEO campaign is its ability to literally bring you the best possible traffic in terms of relevance and interest. With proper research it is possible for an SEO specialist to literally lift your website up the search engine ladder for any number of search terms. As a Calgary SEO specialist I stress the importance of knowing your competition, knowing where they are strongest in the market and where they are weakest. I also stress the importance of patience. There are a lot of websites out there (with more by the day) and bringing yours to the top of the heap is a much longer process. If you are looking for quick results and short term gains, SEO is not for you. SEO is strictly for long-term gains. It’s not uncommon to reap the benefits of an SEO campaign for months or even years after its completion.
