Using Keywords in Domain Names – Does It Help?
How important is it to use some of your keywords in your domain name?
One way to check that is to look at who turns up on page one of Google for any search term. And since we happen to have a carpet cleaner in here at the moment, let’s use “carpet cleaning” as an example. Now you might be thinking, who searches for the term carpet cleaning without adding the name of their city or suburb?
Good point.
So let’s do that.
Here are the search results for “carpet cleaning sydney” (which is where I live) . We could have used one of the local suburbs, but Sydney will do for now.
TOP TEN RESULTS IN GOOGLE FOR: CARPET CLEANING SYDNEY
carpetcleaningconsumerguide.com.au
carpetcleaning.com.au
sydneywidecarpetcleaning.com.au
sydneycarpetcleaning.com
carpetcleaners.net
carpetcleaningsydney.com
carpet-cleaning-sydney.communityguide.com.au
carpet-cleaning.com.au
nswcarpetcleaning.com.au
sydneycarpetcleaners.com
See that? EVERY TOP TEN SITE HAS THE KEYWORD IN THE DOMAIN NAME.
Looks like a good case for including one or more of your keywords in your domain name, doesn’t it? It’s not the only thing. It may not even be the main thing, but when you’re picking a name for your next website, bear it in mind. When it comes to getting on page 1 of Google and the other search engines, every extra tick is worth having.
By the way, if you’re looking for a carpet cleaner in Sydney, the name of the company is Yes We Can Carpet Cleaning. Neat name, eh? And a neat service – Kharl uses a carpet dry cleaning method that is QUIETER than we’d expected, plus he uses a NON-TOXIC spray. That’s win/win, if you ask me. And you’ll see him on page one if you look up carpet cleaning Sydney or cleaning carpet Sydney, to name just 2 terms. If you mention my name when you call him, you’ll put a smile on Kharl’s face. But that’s easy enough… he’s a cheery fellow.
Bye for now.
